Advent Study Series: Saints of the Catholic Reformation

Explore the lives of six saints who led the Church in the years following the Protestant Reformation. It’s a timely topic, as 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. All are welcome to participate. Each session begins with a video presentation followed by discussion, using “True Reformers: Saints of the Catholic Reformation,” published by the Augustine Institute. These saints of the Catholic Reformation show us just how powerful – and beautiful – is the human heart’s free response to God’s generous grace. Discussions will be led by Deacon Phil Rzewnicki.

Dec. 6: 9:30 AM, “St. Thomas More, The Age of the Author” and 1:00 PM, “St. Ignatius of Loyola, Soldier for Christ.”

Dec. 13, 9:30 AM, “St. Philip Neri, The Apostle of Joy” and 1:00 PM, “St. Charles Borromeo, The Good Shepherd.”

Dec. 20, 9:30 AM, “St. Theresa of Avila, A Study of Perseverance,” and 1:00 PM, “St. Francis de Sales, Pastor of Souls.”

Registration is required. Cost is $20 for a single session; $30 for both sessions on a single day. Enjoy lunch on site, prepared by Avila’s fabulous cooks, for an additional $7.00. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions.

A Wintry Mix: ART, SPIRIT, REST

Fri Jan 12,2018 7 pm through Sun Jan 14, 2018 11 am

Three things we don’t get enough of! Welcome YOUR New Year by giving yourself a weekend to consciously immerse in all three: Art, Spirituality and Rest. Have you felt the Spirit’s presence while engaged in creating art? While at rest? Does peace sneak up and surprise you? Has your spirit been moved while doodling, staring out a window, being in a group of like-minded souls? This weekend allows the time and space to experience all these.

No art experience is required for this guided and exploratory retreat! All art materials provided.

Presenter: Claudia Fulshaw – a Durham graphic designer, entrepreneur, artist and art retreat/workshop facilitator. Please contact Claudia at cfdesign19@aol.com or 919-306-2919 for more information and registration.
